JOB OVERVIEW:
Under direction, the purpose of the position is to provide administrative support in the compiling, preparation, reviewing and proofing of legal documents, and to provide skillful assistance to professional legal staff with pending litigation. Employees in this job classification function at an authority staff level and are responsible for reviewing the accuracy of informational databases, court dockets and legal files; completing judicial forms or license applications; preparing real estate documents or reports; and ensuring comprehensive information of case files. Performs related work as directed.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Serves as legal assistant to senior members of the company’s professional legal staff to provide skillful administrative support in the compiling, preparation and proofing of legal documents.
-Provides proficient assistance to professional legal staff with pending litigation and other departmental staff with general legal inquiries.
-Requests and obtains critical information from sources such as executive staff, various departmental management and senior staff; numerous government agencies and administrators, e.g., city, state; police department, fire department, liquor and building inspectors; insurance agents.
-Compiles, prepares and reviews accuracy of informational databases, court dockets and legal files, and ensures comprehensive information of case files on pending litigation.
-Prepares and completes legal notices and contracts, real estate documents, license applications, affidavits, writs of summons and other legal forms as directed.
-Researches, compiles and evaluates legal files for completion and accuracy of documentation.
-Reviews and summarizes abstracts, deeds and miscellaneous legal documents for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and conformance to established policies and standards.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
-High school diploma or GED.
-four (4) years progressively responsible experience in administrative support, two (2) years of which shall be in legal administrative support functions, such as at the Legal Secretary level, e.g., case file preparation, document processing, real estate, liquor licensing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
